This is your opportunity to see hemp being installed IRL!
At Envirotecture, we've been designing and building with hempcrete for more than 15 years now, and now we have our first suburban-Sydney home being built with lovely material! It's currently under construction, and thanks to the generosity of our clients and their builders, we're hosting a tour to share it with the public.
Permaculture ethos
This home is nicknamed "Permi Palace" due the clients interest in permaculture. (Unsurprisingly, many of our clients care deeply about this holistic design philosophy for sustainable living, built on three foundational ethics: Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share.)
The hempcrete addition is to the rear of the original masonry home in a heritage conservation area and there will also be the building-material for a small studio. The project encompasses broad sustainability goals with a primary design driver being to retain as much garden space as possible for cultivation (we can attest to the awesomeness of the peaches!)
Hempcrete home
Using hempcrete as a building material is very aligned with the philosphy of nature-inspipred design (and our biophilic design ethos). You can read more in one our early articles about hemp published in Sanctuary magazine.
Site tour
In the digital age, there's an overwhelming amount of information online. We love these rare opportunities to visit these sites, see how hemp is being installed, and have the opportunity to ask questions.
We are proud to be offering a limited numbers site tour at 3.30pm on Thursday 23rd April 2026 in Willoughby. Bookings essential.
The tour will coincide with the hemp installation process. The intention is to give a demonstration of the mixing and placing process (by the builder, not you).
A huge thanks to both our delightful clients as well as Ben Cunningham and the team at Point 6.
