We’re proud that two of our Architectural-Graduates and experienced Certified Passivhaus Designers (Mia Radic and Shaily Shah) are presenting to the Australian Passivhaus Association community on April 27th 12:00 – 13:00.
Their presentation is titled:
What’s The X-Factor When It Comes To High Performance?
It’s a common question, what is the single most important thing to consider when designing a Passivhaus standard home? Tricky question, but in our experience of designing and modelling many homes, it’s all about the form-factor.
In this presentation they will be discussing the difference between form-factor and area-volume ratio and why it is important to get them right in the early Sketch Design Stage.
- What exactly is form-factor and why is it so important?
- Does it really make that much difference to performance? How?
- What happens to the performance of a simple compact home when an internal courtyard is incorporated into the design?
- What happens when a house has 4 external walls compared to 20 external walls?
- Does this mean my house design has to be a boring box?
- Is there a preferred form-factor?
Through the use of multiple Passivhaus project case studies and data we have compiled over years of experimentation, we aim to prove the impact these ratios/values make on the efficiency of the residence.
This is an exploration of how optimal form-factor and area-volume ratio enables designers, builders and homeowners to make informed design decisions to develop a Passivhaus more efficiently, affordably and effectively.
