This is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of a high-performance build before final finishes conceal the precision detailing beneath.
This thoughtfully designed two-storey home balances complex site constraints—including flood zoning and a street-facing northern orientation—to achieve a resilient and energy-efficient design. Built using a lightweight timber-framed thermal envelope and minimal on-site concrete, the project also reflects a strong commitment to low embodied carbon construction.
The mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system has been installed but is not yet commissioned—making this an ideal opportunity to get a close look at the system design and installation before it's concealed.
Learning Outcomes:
- Core Passivhaus principles and how they're applied on-site
- Real-world airtightness detailing and construction techniques
- MVHR system design and installation before commissioning
- Design decisions that reduce upfront carbon while maintaining performance
- How to deliver health, comfort, and efficiency in coastal conditions
This is a fantastic chance to go 'under the hood' of a Passivhaus and learn directly from those bringing it to life.
Project Highlights:
- Beach suburb location with flood constraint-responsive design
- Street-facing northern orientation
- Timber-framed construction with low concrete use to reduce embodied carbon
- High-performance airtight detailing visible before lining
- MVHR system installed and accessible for inspection
- Balanced approach to comfort, resilience, and energy efficiency
- In-progress tour showcasing real-life application of Passivhaus principles
