Step inside Bellehaus, a Melbourne family home under construction, and discover what goes into creating a healthier, more comfortable Passivhaus.
When the owners of Bellhaus purchased their property in Melbourne's East Keilor, it wasn't the existing 1960s brick veneer house that won them over. It was the location — directly across the road from their children's future primary school!
The old house was uncomfortable, poorly planned and disconnected from the outdoors, with a backyard dominated by concrete paving. The discovery of extensive mould during demolition only reinforced their decision to start fresh.
Their vision was for something very different: a healthy, comfortable home that would nurture their young family, with plenty of space for the kids and dogs to play, and a garden that could flourish.
Designed by Envirotecture and being built by Carland Constructions, Bellhaus is a thoughtfully designed two-storey home, targeting Passivhaus certification. Its simple, compact form maximises space for a generous backyard, while brickwork at ground level anchors the home within its established suburban neighbourhood.
Now we're inviting you behind the scenes!
Join Envirotecture Director Talina Edwards and Matt Carland from Carland Constructions for a guided tour of Bellehaus at a fascinating stage of construction — before the plasterboard goes on!
With the building wrapped, high-performance windows installed and the airtightness target achieved, this is a rare opportunity to see the careful detailing that makes a Passivhaus work, before it all gets hidden behind the walls.
We'll share the story behind the design, explain the benefits of building to the Passivhaus standard and answer your questions about creating a home that's better for people and planet.
Two tours are available:
- 1–2pm | Industry tour: A technical deep dive for builders, architects and industry professionals.
- 4–5pm | Future homeowners tour: Perfect for anyone considering building a healthier, more comfortable and energy-efficient home.
