The Biophilic Bungalow is intended to be a pebble in the pond that creates ripples of change across our industry and communities.
Our wonderful client will be presenting a webinar ‘A Pebble in the Pond – The Biophilic Bungalow’ on 11th June 2025 at 12:30pm, thanks to the Australian Passivhaus Association.
We love how passionate our client is in sharing the story of this home with a wider audience.
The Biophilic Bungalow is a single family renovation and addition project in Hampton Victoria with a bold vision for the regeneration of place and industry transformation. Frustrated by the lack of sustainability leadership applied to single family home projects, Chris Buntine and his family have embarked on a journey to build a home that is energy positive, carbon neutral, water resilient, zero waste, healthy and nature positive. This includes targeting Passivhaus Enerphit certification and Living Building Challenge Energy Petal certification. The original home, a 100-year old California bungalow will be given new life, demonstrating that it is possible to reduce upfront carbon, deliver a well insulated airtight building and celebrate 100 year old architecture.
The conversations about our single family homes needs to shift from square meterage and European appliances to wellness and nature connection, ecology and biodiversity, adaptation and resilience. The Biophilic Bungalow is intended to be a pebble in the pond that creates ripples of change across our industry and communities. The project will demonstrate the potential for single family homes to positively impact the lives of the occupants and the wider community of life, human and non-human.
