Envirotecture directors will present online workshops about sustainable homes, with a focus on passivhaus and biophilic design
If you’re renovating, building, renting, or simply looking for practical sustainability advice grounded in real experience these events are for you.
This month-long deep dive series curated by the Sustainable House Day team and RENEW, will share ideas for creating healthier, more comfortable, energy-efficient and climate-ready homes.
Biophilic Design: Bring Nature Home
Join Envirotecture Director Talina Edwards for a holistic exploration of why nature-connection is far more than a passing trend and why the homes we create profoundly shape the way we feel and live.
As our understanding of sustainability evolves, the conversation is shifting beyond energy efficiency and “doing less harm” toward homes that actively support human and planetary wellbeing. But what does this actually look and feel like in everyday life?
This session explores the growing intersection between architecture, health, neuroscience and nature-connection. Together we’ll consider how our built environments influence stress, sleep, mood, focus, relationships and overall quality of life - often in ways we don’t consciously notice.
Through practical examples, emerging research and experiential reflection, we’ll explore questions such as:
- How has sustainable design evolved?
- Do buildings affect our wellness?
- What makes a home feel nurturing, calming or alive?
- How can architecture deepen our connection to nature, self and community?
- Can buildings create positive impacts for both people and planet?
This workshop also includes an interactive experience, inviting participants to slow down, tune into sensory awareness, and reconnect with the deeper emotional qualities of place, shelter and belonging - to embody the true essence of biophilia.

Passivhaus: Comfort Without Compromise
Join Envirotecture Director Andy Marlow in conversation with Simon Anderson from Anderson Architecture for a practical and thought-provoking conversation exploring what Passivhaus means in an Australian context and whether international standards and classifications always suit our climate, homes, and way of living.
This session will unpack the core building principles behind Passivhaus design, including airtightness, insulation, glazing, ventilation, and thermal performance, while exploring how these ideas translate to real Australian homes across different climate zones through the three principles of approach.
Together, the speakers will explore:
- What Passivhaus is and how it works
- How Passivhaus principles improve comfort, health, and indoor air quality
- Reducing energy demand through smarter building design
- How Passivhaus performs in Australian climates
- The role of certification
Practical lessons from Australian projects and real homes, including the synergy between Passivhaus and bushfire resistance
How homeowners can apply Passivhaus thinking at different budgets and scales
