What if your home could be a sanctuary of comfort, a haven of health, and a champion of energy efficiency?
PurePassiv has become a poster pinup in recent discussions about the value given to energy efficient, green homes. This certified Passivhaus Premium home in suburban Sydney has made headlines across multiple news platforms last month.
A recent article by Domain spurred the story, based on its research that compared sales prices for dwellings that listed attributes associated with sustainable housing. The report noted sales premiums of up by 14.5% depending on dwelling type and location.
The Passivhaus standard is very specific and also verifiable, which rules out greenwashing. However, almost no certified Passivhaus homes have so far been offered for sale—certainly in our experience we are building ‘forever homes’ for our clients. This means it’s hard to get data on price premiums specific to Passivhaus. So it is encouraging that this very broad definition of a green or sustainable home is indicating that buyers are searching for sustainable attributes and paying more for homes that have them.
Construction costs are at all-time highs and building a new home will likely be a household’s largest single investment. It is reassuring that the broader market also sees the added benefit of a home that is supremely comfortable and healthy and very cheap to heat and cool.

- The full Domain report can be read here.
- The Sydney Morning Herald features Chris Nunn and PurePassiv at length at the end of their article about the report findings.
- Domain’s video series on Sustainable Housing features PurePassiv, billing it as “Australia’s First GreenStar Passivhaus Premium Home”
In this video, Chris Nunn talks about how much his family enjoy living in their home, which was Australia’s first to earn Passivhaus Premium certification and a Green Star rating. Chris does a wonderful job of describing the benefits of living in a home that is a sanctuary of comfort, a haven of health and a champion of energy efficiency.
SBS News Australia also recently ran a short news story about this and featured our client Chris once again sharing the story of his PurePassiv home. We loved that he calls it his “dream suburban house” as it certainly ticks all the boxes with regard to energy efficiency, low (or no!) power bills, year-round comfort and a healthy indoor environment.
