Envirotecture produced the winning entry in an invited competition for a demonstration house to be built by Bathurst Regional Council. This will be a showcase for the local community, to influence residents to make more sustainable choices when purchasing new homes. Given the stresses placed on our environment by urban growth, it is critical that such practical leadership is shown.
See all our Residential DesignsThe seasonal and diurnal range of the central NSW tablelands climate demands that the design maximised the north facing living areas while tucking away the sleeping zone to the south and shaded east. Various wall types were specified to respond to the different thermal performance requirements throughout the building, also to minimise cost on a tight budget.
Local materials and those with higher recycled content were specified to reduce the building’s embodied energy and long term ecological impact.
The house is designed to be water autonomous, with a 25,000 litre rainwater tank under the western patio. It is hoped the budget will permit photovoltaics, and the roof has been designed to allow for easy installation.
