Being a team player achieves far more than just barking from the sidelines

This project currently under construction is a new dwelling on the northern beaches of Sydney. A steep west facing site within a mature spotted gum forest and natural rock formations allowed us to explore other ways to ventilate, heat and cool this building.

Protected from the cool sea breeze by the plateau above, stack ventilation uses the stair well and open upper level living area, with a controllable atrium on top. This controllable ventilation system is the dominant of the roof design.

Other design principles including rainwater harvesting, appropriate relationship of thermal mass to glazing and shading, and floorplan zoning, allows this home to sit comfortably on the site.
